The 15-Minute Cure for Emotional Exhaustion

We’ve all been there: you get a solid eight hours of sleep, wake up, and immediately want another eight. The never-ending mental checklist of tasks occupies and drains your energy before you’ve even had that first sip of coffee. Mental exhaustion isn’t just about being busy; it’s about that deep, bone-tired feeling of being on auto-pilot, like a robot just going through the motions. Sometimes I feel so stuck in my routine that I’ve become indifferent to it all. I go to bed exhausted, wake up unmotivated, and want answers. Maybe it’s an overworked brain, too much drama, or too much social media. Maybe it’s all of it. And every day, it seems like there’s a new magic pill or method being peddled to combat it.

But maybe that’s part of the problem. As you know, I believe in aging gracefully and prioritizing self-care from within. For me, the answer isn’t a new vitamin, supplement, or a cosmetic procedure. While I respect everyone’s personal journey, I’ve never believed that there’s a magic pill that can cure it all. The real solution has to start from within. It requires a desire to be completely honest with yourself and have the self-discipline to step up to the challenge, actively doing the work to make a difference within yourself.

Lately, I’ve realized my physical space is a mirror of my mental state. I look at my kitchen table, particularly, and I shudder. It’s become a graveyard of mail and projects for “tomorrow.” That clutter takes up precious mental space, a subtle weight that drains my energy without me even realizing it. I can meditate daily and thank God for my blessings, but the sight of that damn table is always waiting to pull me back down. I realized that I needed to take action.

So, I’ve started an experiment I’ve often read about. Instead of trying to fix everything at once, I’m consciously dedicating just 15 minutes a day to tackle a single task. Just 15 minutes to go through the mail, file a few papers, or finally put away a load of laundry. By setting and accomplishing these smaller goals, I get a sense of accomplishment that pushes me to keep going, to free up some mental bandwidth so I can focus my energy on other tasks. I’m definitely no Martha Stewart, and the goal isn’t a spotless home. The goal is to get that pep back in my step. To simplify. To clear the mental clutter that weighs us down emotionally and leads to indifference.

This is part of the UnSettled journey—prioritizing yourself and breaking free of the mundane. It’s not about perfection; it’s about taking small, intentional steps toward a more conscious and energized life. So, I’m asking you, how are you getting that spark back? How are you clearing mental space? I’m interested in your methods.
