We’ve all experienced loss—losing someone we love too soon—and the phrase “only the good die young” rings painfully true. Our soul cries out, and we mourn a reality that simply feels unfair. Yet, as I’ve learned through my own grief, sometimes the purest souls are only lent to us for a short time. They are what I call Earth Angels.

I believe Earth Angels are vessels of God, placed on this Earth for a reason. They carry a light that shines so intensely, it has an immediate and profound effect on everyone in their path. Their purpose is not to stay but to make an indelible impact, leaving us with a lesson and a task.

For me, the concept of an Earth Angel was ingrained early. I lost my maternal grandmother a year before I was born, but her spirit, her memory, and her legacy were woven into the fabric of my life. My mother ensured I knew her light, and I have always felt her presence as my Guardian Angel.

History repeated itself when I lost my own mother too young. She was a force who left an impact on anyone who crossed her path, yet she was gone before truly knowing her grandchildren. Though I miss her terribly every single day, her spirit lives through my children, and her love is something I carry as my greatest blessing. She was—and is—my Earth Angel.

Recently, my eldest son and his friends met their first Earth Angel. A dear friend left this Earth far too soon at the age of 20, but the impact she made was truly inspirational. You couldn’t help but feel the positivity she exuded; I never saw her without that special beam of a smile that radiated pure joy.

When my son called me in tears, trying to make sense of why such a faithful, bright soul would be taken so young, the loss was heavy. It’s not fair, but I reminded him of the concept of Earth Angels. Her light was so bright because she was here for a specific reason: to impact you and everyone who loved her.

She taught you all a lesson—that no matter what life throws at you, you face it with faith and a smile. Her place is now beside the Lord, but her lesson is perfect.

That is the true, comforting purpose of Earth Angels: they touch so many people, shine their light, and then leave us with a task. You were chosen for a reason to have formed that connection with them.

If you have ever been fortunate enough to have experienced the love of an Earth Angel, know that when they are gone from the physical world, their hand is still on your back, still sending you love. You have been blessed, and now you have a responsibility.

It is now up to you to embrace that lesson and carry on their light and their message. It is a simple reminder that none of us know how long we are here, but we must make the most of our time—with love, with faith, and with light. Because no matter how heavy life can feel at times, know that your Earth Angel is now your Guardian Angel.
